In Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) 33-run victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, April 7, one moment that caught everyone's eyes was a stunning caught-and-bowled effort by spinner Ravi Bishnoi to dismiss GT batter Kane Williamson. LSG fielding coach Jonty Rhodes and Bishnoi himself have now provided insight into the making of this incredible catch.

Rhodes, widely regarded as one of the best fielders of all time, praised Bishnoi's commitment to fielding practice. “Someone like Ravi completely exhausts me and never misses a single day of practice. If we're on the ground, he will take catches every single day. So, he works hard on his bowling, but not so hard on his batting. But when it comes to fielding, he is never sitting in the dug-out and never hiding in the dressing room,” said Rhodes in a video released by the IPL on social media platform ‘X’.

Bishnoi revealed what motivated him to commit to the catch. "I didn't realize anything. I was just reacting to the ball. My momentum was going on side but I decided to go the other side to take the catch. There's a saying from you, ‘If you don’t go, you’ll never know’. That's what I did," the spinner said.

Seeing that reaction in less than a second was great: Jonty Rhodes

Rhodes also highlighted Bishnoi's calmness under pressure, noting, “You can have some difficulties when you're bowling and you have to react like that. The great thing about that catch was that he went backward and gave himself time. Often when you see the ball, go across with hard hands. So seeing that reaction in less than a second was great,” Rhodes added.

This effort from Bishnoi proved crucial for the hosts, as it helped them bundle out GT at 130. Earlier, Marcus Stoinis had scored a crucial 58 off 43 balls to power LSG to 163/5. Fast bowler Yash Thakur's figures of 5/30, proved to be instrumental for LSG to register yet another win in the season. Following this win, the Lucknow-based franchise has climbed up to third place on the points table with three wins and one loss.
