Kieron Pollard hit two sixes in The Hundred 2024 encounter between Southern Brave and Welsh Fire at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on Monday, August 5. One of those hits almost took out the legendary Kumar Sangakkara in the commentary box.

When Pollard walked out to bat, at No. 5, Southern Brave were at the score of 103/3. The former West Indies captain played a quickfire cameo of 17 off 12 balls, hitting two maximums. The first of the two big hits crashed into the commentary box at the fine-leg boundary as Sangakkara had a narrow escape along with his fellow commentator Robert Croft. This incident took place on the 84th ball of the match as the 37-year-old pulled a short delivery from Haris Rauf towards fine-leg.

The ball struck the commentary box, prompting both Sangakkara and Croft to take evasive action and guard their faces to avoid disaster. Croft in particular was left rattled and complained to his team members for not warning him about the incoming ball.

Talking about the match, Brave posted 139/5 in their 100 balls after deciding to bat first. Skipper James Vince led from the front as he scored an unbeaten 73 off just 50 balls, belting seven fours and three sixes. For Welsh, Rauf was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 2/22 off 20 balls.

In reply, Welsh lost wickets at regular intervals and couldn't inject any sort of momentum into their innings. Tom Abell and Co. eventually collapsed for 97, with David Willey top-scoring with a 14-ball 21. Tymal Mills stood out with a four-for, while Danny Briggs and Chris Jordan picked up three and two wickets, respectively.
