After a good start in the third ODI, England were 80/2 at 8.4 overs. Tom Banton and Joe Root were building a good partnership in the middle and had already shared 46 runs for the third wicket between them. India were in dire need of a breakthrough and the honours were done by ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
Kuldeep came to bowl in the 18th over of the innings. On the last ball of the over, Kuldeep took the pace off the ball, and floated the delivery in the air. The ball pitched a short fuller and demanded Banton to stretch forward in defence. When he did so, it took a faint edge and KL Rahul, despite fumbling in the first attempt, managed to get hold of the ball. The England batter went for a review but to no avail, as he walked back scoring 38 off 41 and leaving the visitors on 126/3.

We want to keep the pressure away from youngsters: Rohit Sharma
Ahead of the game, it was expected that India might enter with some changes to their playing XI and it became certain when Rohit Sharma joined Jos Buttler at the toss. Kuldeep, who was rested in the second ODI was back in place of Varun Chakaravarthy. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami were rested as Washington Sundar entered the fray and played his first ODI of the series.

“I wanted to bat first and put runs on the board because we bowled first in the last two games. It was important for us to get a win in the last game. The fielders portrayed themselves well in the last two games, a lot of young blood. We want to continue to do well in the field. (On Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy) They are pretty new in their careers so we want to keep the pressure away from them, let them do their own and they have got a lot of potential. We have made some changes - Jadeja and Shami have been rested, unfortunately Varun has a sore calf. So, Washi, Kuldeep and Arshdeep come into the side,” said Rohit at the toss.
