Hilariously unreal scenes unfolded at the Adelaide Oval in the Big Bash League 2024-25 encounter between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat where the father of debutant, Liam Haskett, caught the ball in situated in the crowd off his own son's bowling. The particular incident occurred in the fourth over of the run-chase when Nathan McSweeney hammered a short-of-a-length delivery into the midwicket stands.
It was quite a stunning catch in all honesty. Haskett's father grabbed the ball in the traditional reverse-cup fashion, celebrated for a millisecond, and immediately threw the ball back into play. It was a bittersweet moment for him though. The crowd, which included his wife sitting beside him, was applauding him for the effort. However, the middle-aged person wore a stern look on his face, seemingly unimpressed by the fact that his son was being battered all around the ground.

Adelaide Strikers eventually won the high-scoring game by 56 runs. To Haskett's credit, he managed to pick up a couple of wickets by the end of his four-over spell in addition to claiming a catch to his name at the deep midwicket fence.
Earlier in the day, a motoring 54-ball 109-run knock by the skipper of the Strikers, Matthew Short, in addition to quickfire fifties by Chris Lynn and Alex Ross, led the hosts to end up with a mammoth 251 on the board. On the other hand, none of the batters from the opposition could really get going and rack up a substantial score, as the visitors fell well short at the end.
