Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma had a cheeky moment with Lucknow Sper Giants (LSG) owner Sanjeev Goenka after LSG secured a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-octane clash at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Friday, April 4.

MI had won the toss and opted to bowl first. LSG got off to a flying start with Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh smashing a quickfire 60 off just 31 balls, bringing up his half-century in only 27 deliveries before being dismissed in the 7th over. His opening partner, South African Aiden Markram, played a steady innings, contributing 53 runs off 38 balls. The duo laid a strong foundation for the team.

In the latter half of the innings, Ayush Badoni and David Miller chipped in with valuable runs, helping LSG post a formidable total of 203 runs on the board.

Chasing a mammoth target, MI showed resilience with Naman Dhir scoring a solid 46 and Suryakumar Yadav keeping hopes alive with a fluent 67 off 43 balls. Captain Hardik Pandya, who had earlier starred with the ball by claiming a brilliant five-wicket haul, tried to anchor the chase but fell short in the final overs. Among LSG’s bowlers, Digvesh Rathi stood out with a remarkable spell, conceding just 21 runs in his four overs and picking up a crucial wicket at an impressive economy rate of 5.2.

After the match, Rohit Sharma, who missed the fixture with a knee injury, was seen joking with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka. With a big smile, Rohit quipped, “Sir, why worry when you have Lord?”, humorously referring to Shardul Thakur.

Known fondly by fans as “Lord Shardul” for his knack of delivering in crucial moments, Thakur had bowled a decent spell in the match, finishing with figures of 4 overs, 40 runs, and the key wicket of Ryan. Shardul also bowled a tight penultimate over, conceding only seven runs when Mumbai Indians needed 29 off 12. The effort eventually proved crucual in his team;s victory as Avesh Khan successfully defended 22 off the final over.
