[WATCH] 'Main rota nahi hu aise easily' - Shreyas Iyer opens up about last time he shed tears
Shreyas Iyer was the second-highest run-scorer in the Champions Trophy 2025 with 243 runs from five matches.
India's middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer, revealed that the last time he shed tears was at the first practice session during the Champions Trophy 2025. He was in terrific form after the England series but failed to capitalize on it during the net session. Hence, his anger turned into sorrow and he cried.
He then mentioned that he was 'shocked' at the way he cried because he had never done that. Iyer played an important role in the Champions Trophy, especially in the middle overs. Even in the finals, he scored 48 runs off 62 balls, hitting two boundaries and two sixes. He was an asset to the team during the ICC event and took on the responsibility really well.
"Last time I cried was during Champions Trophy, first practice session. Like literally crying, crying. Because I batted in the nets aur mera batting acha nahi hua. Toh mujhe itna gussa aya apne aap par ke main rone chalu kiya [I was so angry with myself that I started crying]. And I was also shocked ke main rota nahi hu aise easily [I don't cry that easily]," said Shreyas Iyer on Punjab Kings' show, 'Kandid with Kings.
The player was in stunning form in the England series in February. However, the wickets in Dubai were different, which is where he struggled a bit during the practice sessions. Later, he understood the pitch and the conditions and scored well in the main tournament.
"England series mein mera acha performance ho gaya tha. So I thought ke woh same flow sab aa jayega. But idhar ke wickets alag the thoda sa [I had performed well in the England series. So I thought that the same flow and everything will be there. But the wickets there were a bit different]. And then to adapt on the first day itself was kind of hard," he added.
