Rishabh Pant was looking positive out in the middle and along with the debutant, Nitish Kumar Reddy, was gradually getting a move on after the top and middle-order weathered a batting collapse earlier in the day. Pant was looking in total control of things, especially after he had walloped a full delivery outside the off-stump by the Australian skipper over the fine-leg fence.

However, it was Pat Cummins who had the last laugh. Pant nicked a delivery which was angling across the off-stump from Cummins who had moved to bowling from over-the-wicket. In fact, it was the previous few deliveries which Cummins bowled to the southpaw which set up the batter to end up playing his wicket delivery the way he did. Former Australian cricketer, Michael Hussey, who was one of the commentators at that moment, explained how Cummins induced Pant to make the error which led him to get dismissed.

Hussey explained how Cummins floated a whole lot of deliveries outside the off-stump before bowling one a lot straighter which compelled Rishabh Pant to attempt a flick on the leg-side. Hussey also shared how Cummins had intentionally left pockets of space open in the midwicket region for Pant to go for the aggressive option.

"This is why you can have a fast bowler as a Captain. He's a smart bowler, smart captain, Pat Cummins. Throwing it outside off-stump, prying on the patience of Rishabh Pant, and just got a little bit fuller. Rishabh Pant, he saw that midwicket tried to work it in there," said Hussey while on air.

India bowled out for 150 after opting to bat first

It was a disappointing display from the batting unit barring a few batters, as all India could manage was 150 after winning the toss. Yashashvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal got out for eight and 12-ball ducks, respectively.

KL Rahul was looking steadfast in his technique before he was dismissed in a controversial manner. Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored with 41, but other than Rahul, Pant and the debutant, there was not much to show from the other players.
