During the Hundred 2024 match between London Spirit and Northern Superchargers at Headingley in Leeds on August 13, Mitchell Santner displayed sheer athleticism to send Michael Pepper packing. Reece Topley was bowling the first ball of the third over and Pepper lofted one over mid-on. As the ball was sailing through the air and dipping abruptly, Santner chased it charging backward with eyes stuck on the leather and grabbed a stunner.

As a result of the New Zealand spinner's full-stretch dive, Pepper had to trudge back with just three runs to his name. Apart from Keaton Jennings and Ravi Bopara, no other London Spirit batter crossed the 30-run mark. Thanks to Liam Dawson’s 27-run cameo down the order, Spirit huffed and puffed their way to 111 runs while batting first.

Here’s the video of Santner’s spectacular catch:

Rain leads Superchargers to victory over Spirit

Adil Rashid dazzled with three wickets for Northern Superchargers as Reece Topley and Matthew Pott chipped in with two wickets each. As rain played a spoilsport during the second innings, the match had to be called off after 44 balls were bowled. Superchargers were 21 runs ahead as per DLS method and were adjudged winners as they notched 64 runs in 44 balls while losing just one wicket.

“Fortunately we got those runs in time, because rain came 10 balls after that. We did well with the ball and with the bat by scoring those runs (quickly.) We got a very good squad, we are playing well, that brand of cricket. Hopefully we progress through to the next round. At the moment feeling okay, it was fortunate to put up a nice performance,” said Rashid after getting POTM award.

“That's cricket for you, sometimes you bowl well, sometimes you get smashed. We bowled exceptionally well, everyone bowled well. It can be at times, just a part and parcel of the game. At times it's nice, it all depends on the bowlers. If you can't get wicket upfront, you can't get wickets in the middle overs, can get difficult,” he added.
