Watch: Mohammed Shami shatters Brydon Carse's stumps during IND vs ENG Nagpur ODI

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami produced an absolute beauty as he cleaned up Brydon Carse during the first ODI between India and England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. The Indian pacer, who was playing his first 50-over international game since India's World Cup final against Australia on November 19, 2023, was searching for his first wicket of the match, and finally struck on his 41st delivery, dismantling Carse’s stumps classically.

The first ODI of the three-match series saw debutants Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana. England, despite a good start, found themselves losing wickets at regular intervals, making it tough to post a defendable score. After opting to bat first, the visitors got off to a good start with Phil Salt (43 off 26) and Ben Duckett (32 off 29) putting up quick runs. However, after a middle-order collapse, Jos Buttler’s half-century (52 off 67) and Jacob Bethell’s knock (51 off 64) helped stabilize the innings.

With the Three Lions already on the back foot at 206 for 6 in the 40th over, Carse tried to accelerate the scoring rate but fell victim to Shami’s brilliance. The speedster bowled a good length delivery, targeting the off-stump. Carse attempted a slog across the line but completely missed the ball, which went on to crash into the middle stump, as the delivery proved to be a Shami’s classic "you-miss-I-hit". His breakthrough left England struggling at 206 for 7, exposing the tailenders with more than 10 overs still left in the innings.

India bowled England for 248 runs with Ravindra Jadeja and Harshit Rana bagging three wickets each and Mohammed Shami, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each.

Following Carse’s dismissal, England continued to falter. Ravindra Jadeja trapped Bethell LBW in the 43rd over, ensuring India stayed in control. While Jofra Archer tried to provide the final push.  At the time of writing, England were batting on 242/9 after 47 overs.
