Legendary India captain MS Dhoni was recently spotted in a new look, coming out from a vanity van in a simple white vest. The images went viral and have once again sparked debates about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the IPL 2025 retention deadline around the corner, the former skipper's new look has once again made him the topic of discussion.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend, who has been the face of the franchise since its inception, has kept fans guessing about his participation in the cash-rich league. Recently, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed about Dhoni's future.

Dhoni has not confirmed it to us: CSK CEO
"We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, 'I will tell you before October 31.' We hope that he will play," Viswanathan told Sports Vikatan.
The 2024 IPL season saw Dhoni in a different role, having handed over the captaincy duties to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite giving away the captaincy, he continued to contribute brilliantly with the bat and scored 161 runs in 11 innings coming lower down the order in brief batting appearances. However, CSK missed out on the playoff berth, finishing fifth in the table after losing their last league game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, a significant development in the retention rules could work in CSK's favour as the IPL has reintroduced a regulation allowing players who have been retired from international cricket for five years to be retained as uncapped players. This means CSK could potentially retain the veteran for just INR 4 crore.
