The Punjab Kings (PBKS) will lock horns against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Shreyas Iyer is set to take the lead of PBKS for the very first time. However, this isn't his first time as a captain. He led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) towards victory in the previous season of the league. Also, his captaincy accolades are tremendous in the domestic tournaments.

This is one of the main reasons PBKS bought the player for INR 26.75 crores in the mega auction. The franchise has shown faith and trust in the player and given him the captaincy position. It will be intriguing to watch Iyer handle his new team.

Meanwhile, the PBKS team was engaging in a get-together where all the staff and players were present. During the gathering, young batter Musheer Khan was spotted imitating Iyer's walking style and the way he interacts with people.

A video of the same went viral on social media as coach Ricky Ponting was seen impressed with Musheer's act. He nodded his head subtly with a smile and clapped for the player. On the other hand, Iyer was standing and laughing at the way Musheer mimicked him.

Can Shreyas Iyer lead PBKS to maiden title victory in IPL 2025?

Without a doubt, Shreyas Iyer is one of the best captains in the league. He has vast experience in this department, starting his journey from leading the Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils) in 2018. He didn't stop there. He helped DC qualify for the playoffs from 2019-21 and also qualified for the finals in 2020. Iyer then became the captain of KKR in 2022 and led the team to victory in 2024.

If we talk about PBKS, the team might lack some strikers at the top and middle overs. Meanwhile, the bowling looks set for them. However, Ricky Ponting is the head coach of PBKS, who has a good rapport with Iyer, and together, they both have the potential to lead the team to their maiden title.
