Naseem Shah’s heroics with the bat have become the talk of the town as Pakistan defeated Afghanistan in an absolute nail-biter to seal a berth in the Asia Cup 2022 final. Chasing a paltry 130 for victory at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals and Afghanistan were in the hunt till the very end. The equation boiled down to the Men in Green needing 11 runs off the final over with just one wicket in hand.
The ball was in the hands of Fazalhaq Farooqi, who gave away just 19 runs in his first three overs and even took three wickets. Moreover, he nailed his slower deliveries and yorkers to perfection in the previous over he bowled. Hence, many were not backing Pakistan tailenders to cause an upset as they had just arrived at the crease.
Naseem Shah’s all-round brilliance took Pakistan to final
However, the 19-year-old Naseem had different plans as he dispatched the first couple of deliveries for sixes and won the match for his team. Farooqi has no one but himself to blame as he bowled two high full-tosses and Naseem sent them over the long-off boundary ropes. The youngster, who has been bowling brilliantly in the tournament, took the cricket world by storm with his timely big hitting.

Earlier in the game, Naseem recorded figures of 1/19 in four overs. Meanwhile, the youngster after the game stated that he had the belief of clearing the ropes as he has been practicing hard in nets.
"When I came in to bat, I had the belief I could hit sixes," Naseem said. "I practice this. I knew they would bowl yorkers. I just tried and I executed. I had spoken earlier itself that we need to have belief, we can hit. We train in the nets, so that belief was there. I felt my bat was not good, so I changed it (laughs)," said the pacer after the contest.
