KL Rahul has been the best batter for the Indian team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). Notably, the right-handed batter was promoted to opener after Rohit Sharma missed the first Test. Since then, he has opened the innings up until the third Test in Brisbane and did well by scoring 235 runs in six innings.

On the other hand, the Indian skipper, who batted in the middle order, struggled big time scoring just 19 runs in three innings. Coming to the Melbourne Test, Rohit Sharma decided to open the innings and Rahul was demoted to the number three position. The move turned out to be unfavourable as the 'Hitman' departed scoring three runs. When Rahul walked in to bat, Nathan Lyon shrewdly welcomed him by asking the Indian batter about why he batted at number three despite coming good throughout the series.

"What did you do wrong to bat one down?" Lyon's remark was caught on the stump mic.

Jaiswal provides respite for struggling India

After being asked to bat at number three, the KL Rahul looked in solid touch. He scored three boundaries and had just started to build his innings. But, Australia skipper, Pat Cummins bowled an unplayable delivery which rattled his stumps and he had to walk back scoring 24 runs off 42 deliveries. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the standout batter for India on Day 2.

The southpaw scored 82 runs facing 118 deliveries. His innings was embellished with 11 boundaries and one maximum. Just when his partnership with Virat Kohli reached the 102-run mark, he succumbed to an unfortunate run out, where he misjudged the single and ran straightaway to the non-striker's end. Kohli on the other end looked clueless over Jaiswal’s call, where the latter had just pushed the ball straight into the fielder's hand.
