Mumbai Indians (MI) did not have a rememberable outing against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they lost by four wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. However, one positive for the men in blue and gold was the performance of young left-arm spinners Vignesh Puthur.
The 24-year-old bowler, who came in as an impact sub replacing Rohit Sharma, claimed figures of 3/23 in four overs, dismissing CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda.
After the game, Mumbai Indians owner, Nita Ambani, handed over the 'Best Bowler' award to Vignesh in the dressing room for his outstanding bowling effort on debut. Vignesh was not very economical but claimed big wickets. While Gaikwad was in brilliant touch, Dube and Hooda are brilliant players of spin.

I did not feel that much pressure: Vignesh Puthur
The young bowler spoke about the franchise and the way they showed confidence in him in the game. He extended his gratitude to captain Suryakumar Yadav for being supportive. While MI had some quality pacers, now they have Puthur as a valuable spinner who could prove his worth this season.
"I would like to thank MI franchise for giving me the opportunity to play the match. I never thought in my life I could play with you, so I am very happy. The team could have won. Thanks so much, especially to Captain Surya Bhai, who was very supportive. That's why I did not feel that much pressure. Thanks so much to my teammates for supporting me." said Puthur after the match.
