Punjab Kings (PBKS) won their opening game by 11 runs against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. During the game, Rahul Tewatia was unfortunate enough to get dismissed uniquely. Arshdeep Singh bowled a yorker to Sherfane Rutherford, who drove the ball back to the bowler.

However, it touched Arshdeep's fingers and went straight to the stumps at the bowler's end. Tewatia was out of the crease as he tried to take back the strike. The batter looked great with the bat as he hit a six on the second ball of his innings. It was a wonderful cricket game played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

PBKS scored 243 runs in the first innings. A great knock by captain Shreyas Iyer (97*), Shashank Singh (44*), and Priyansh Arya (47) helped them post a huge total on the board. GT's bowling wasn't good, but R. Sai Kishore held the game from one end. The bowler claimed three wickets and conceded just 30 runs in four overs. He was the only economical bowler in the innings for GT.

When the Shubman Gill-led side came into bat, they started slow, but they were well aware of the score, and a few wickets in hand would have helped them get to the target. Sherfane Rutherford had a great start to his innings but lost his momentum in the middle. PBKS' left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly, maintaining his line and length. For an incredible performance, Iyer won the POTM award.

Shreyas Iyer reveals his reaction on staying unbeaten on 97

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer started his tournament on a great note. Despite missing out on his century, the player mentioned that 'it was the icing on the cake' for them. Iyer looked positively at the win and praised the teammates for giving their best in the game.

"Getting 97 not out in the opening game of the season for us is the icing on the cake. I got a four on the first ball I faced and it got me going. That flick six off Rabada as well. 44 runs he (Shashank) scored off 16-17 off balls was pretty crucial for the team. We set a benchmark that we had to go for it," said Shreyas Iyer at the post-match presentation.
