Renuka Singh picked up the wicket of Gull Feroza in the first over of the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in the ongoing women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian pacer bowled five very good deliveries and in the final ball, she angled it and bowled a perfect in-swinger which sent Feroza packing without opening her tally.
The 25-year-old failed to read the line and the ball mediated through her bat and pads and went on to hit the timber. With that, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side managed an early breakthrough, which was vital after an embarrassing 58-run loss in the first game against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Pakistan also lost the wickets of Sidra Ameen, Omaima Sohail and Muneeba Ali within the first 10 overs. The keeper-batter was the one that kept the scoreboard ticking but Shreyanka Patil got the better of her as Muneeba departed for 17 runs of 26 balls.
Sidra and Omaima made eight and three runs respectively as Pakistan women were 41/4 after ten overs. The Indian bowlers dominated the first phase of the game as Renuka, Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy and Shreyanka picked up one wicket each in the first 10. The hosts meanwhile are missing the service of Pooja Vastrakar, who is currently out with an injury, as captain Harmanpreet confirmed during the toss.

India will look forward to wrapping up the game quickly to improve their net run rate (NRR). It took a hit following the loss against the White Ferns and if they manage to continue in the same manner, the team will be back in contention for the semi-final spot. However, first things first, the team needs to get the job against Pakistan first.
The bowlers have been phenomenal, to say the least, but the fielding effort needs to be improved. Asha Sobhana dropped a simple catch and Richa Ghosh’s keeping too was ordinary in the first half of the innings.
