India have put in an excellent performance in the ODI series against West Indies women, having won both matches by massive marguns to take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.

The two teams kickstarted the series at the Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, on December 22, where pacer Renuka Thakur was the star of the show, bagging the Player of the Match award for her match-winning 5/29.

After the hosts posted a massive 314 runs in the first innings on the back of Smriti Mandhana's 91 and 40s from Pratika Rawal and Harleen Deol, Renuka's fifer helped Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. to limit West Indies to a paltry 103, winning the game by a whopping 211 runs.

After her brilliant exploits, Renuka made a call to India legend Jhulan Goswami, crediting the stalwart for her five-for. Thakur revealed that Goswami had given her some tips before the game which helped her a lot.

“It was fun watching you play, stuck to the rhythm, with the late swing,” Goswami said.

Renuka responded: “Doing what you used to do, following in your footsteps."

The practice before the game is important: Renuka Thakur

Renuka, who received the Player of the Match award for her exemplary performance, also revealed the conversation she had with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur during the game.

“She (Harmanpreet) was asking me if I wanted to bowl again. I was getting a wicket off the last ball, so my confidence was up (to keep on going). We did spot bowling yesterday," Renuka said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

"In ODIs, it depends on how many balls you can land in the same spot. I spoke to Jhulan (Goswami) di, and she told me the more balls I pitch in the same area, the more wickets I will get. It is difficult (switching between formats) for bowlers. The practice before the game is important because the way we practice is usually the way we execute (in matches),” she added.
