The action resumed on Day 2 in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 final between Vidarbha and Kerala after the former ended the opening day with 254/4 with Danish Malewar turning out to be the best performer from the day. Malewar engaged in a key partnership with veteran batter Karun Nair to save Vidarbha from a spot of bother. Nair, who was set to gather yet another century against his name, was sent back to the pavilion for 86, courtesy of a brilliant run-out by Kerala's Rohan Kunnummal.

Kunnummal continued his brilliance in the field on Day 2 as well, as Akshay Karnewar was dismissed off a fantastic catch by him on the bowling of Jalaj Saxena. Stationed at short covers, Kunnummal dived towards his left off a drive by Karnewar on the first ball of the 111th over. His acrobatic reflexes handed Kerala the eighth breakthrough in the first innings, as the Sachin Baby-led side seek their first-ever title in the premier red-ball competition.

Speaking about the rest of the innings, Vidarbha finished with 379 runs from 123.1 overs, with Danish Malewar being the top scorer. Malewar scored an emphatic knock of 153 runs before falling prey to Nedumankuzhy Basil. Harsh Dubey and Nachiket Bhute added 46 runs for Vidarbha's last wicket, that is when MD Nidheesh struck to end the first innings for the Akshay Wadkar-led side.

Kunnummal's failed showing with bat

Although the acrobatics of Rohan Kunnummal helped the Kerala side largely in the game, he couldn't rise to the occasion with the bat. Ace pacer Darshan Nalkande dismissed the opener on a duck in the very first over with a yorker, a ball that the batter chopped onto the stumps. Nalkande struck once again, this time dismissing the other opener Akshay Chandran with a delivery of similar length.

After a collapse, Aditya Sarvate took upon the responsibility to play through the day. The all-rounder remained unbeaten on 66 at Stumps and will resume his innings on Day 3 with a hope to convert his knock into a big one.
