The second half of the Ranji Trophy has already begun and there are some big stars featuring due to the break from international cricket after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. One of the senior players who has made a return to domestic cricket is India skipper Rohit Sharma in the match against Jammu and Kashmir at BKC Ground, Mumbai.

However, this was not the perfect start for the Mumbai team as they lost their top order early in the match. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side lost their first seven wickets for just 47 runs losing all the big stars especially Rohit Sharma who got out on a score of three runs which he scored off 19 deliveries. Apart from him, the other international stars also failed to make an impact in the match as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rahane and Shreyas Iyer also fell cheaply.

The disappointment was visible in Rohit Sharma's body language after the dismissal as he was cramped for room on a back of a length delivery by J&K bowler Umar Nazir, getting a leading edge and giving a simple catch to J&K skipper Paras Dogra at mid-off. This was another major setback for Rohit Sharma in red-ball cricket and his reaction said it all as he walked back with head facing down.

Apart from Rohit, the spectators were also disappointed with his dismissal as they were seen leaving the ground after his innings was over. It is safe to say that the ‘Hitman’ has failed to make an impact once again in the longer format as he struggles to score runs.

Rohit played his last red-ball series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he had one of the worst series of his career. The India Test and ODI skipper could only score 31 runs from the three games he played and averaged only 6.20.
