Former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma took charge of setting the field for his side during the last over of the thrilling clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and seemingly ignored captain Hardik Pandya. It was almost like the former Mumbai Indians captain couldn't help it as the former five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions were almost on the verge of losing a match which they dominated for most parts.
Chasing a 193-run target, the Kings were tottering at 14/4 in the second over at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Ashutosh Sharma's counter-attacking 61 of 28 balls gave them hopes of pulling off a miraculous win. In the last over, the hosts needed 12 runs to win and had only one wicket left. Akash Madhwal was given the responsibility to take Mumbai to a win.
Before bowling the last over, Madhwal had conceded 44 runs in his first three overs and remained wicketless. Hardik had the option to give the ball to Romario Shepherd but he backed Madhwal to finish the job. The Baroda all-rounder had a long discussion with the talented pacer as they were looking to set the correct field. It seemed like Rohit didn't like the field placements and rushed to the bowler and the captain to have a chat.

Akash Madhwal, who has been open in his admiration for Rohit Sharma's captaincy skills, seemed to ask the 36-year-old for his valuable input on the field setup. In the end, it looked like Hardik went with what Rohit felt was the correct field.

Mumbai edge out Punjab in a thriller to pick their third win of IPL 2024
Mumbai Indians needed just one ball in the 20th over to finish the Punjab Kings' innings as Kagiso Rabada fell short of his crease while trying to take a double. Hardik and Co. won the match by nine runs. Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Match award after finishing with excellent figures of 3/21 in his four overs.
