The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai celebrated its 50th anniversary, bringing together Indian cricket legends who have registered their names into the history books of the iconic venue.
The celebration at Wankhede saw a star-studded gathering, including the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane. The evening was to give a tribute to the stadium’s rich history, as the legends shared memories and experiences associated with the venue.
The seating arrangement on stage was divided into sections, and when Shastri arrived, he chose a seat on the extreme left. Shortly after, Indian skipper, Rohit joined the gathering. At that moment, the 37-year-old requested Shastri to leave the corner seat and sit at the center instead. The thoughtful act earned Rohit widespread praise on social media.
Young fan ignores Rohit Sharma's fist bump after taking autograph
During the event, Rohit was involved in a funny moment when a young fan approached him for an autograph. Seated between Tendulkar and Rahane, Rohit was taken aback when the fan ignored the other legends and focused solely on him. The Indian captain signed the fan’s bat and initiated a fist bump. However, the fan jogged away, leaving the veteran opener embarrassed and leaving Rahane in splits. After some time, the young fan returned to complete the fist bump, prompting laughter from those around.
As a Maharashtra native and Mumbai Indians player in the IPL, he has long been associated with the Wankhede Stadium. Over his illustrious career, Rohit has not only recorded memorable performances at the venue but also earned the love of fans in the city.
Rohit’s recent performances with the bat, particularly in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, have placed him under question. The opener is set to join the Mumbai team for their Rani Trophy game, starting from January 23 to return to form ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
