India captain Rohit Sharma failed to hold onto a difficult chance at short mid-wicket during the 35th over of the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand. The dropped catch was India's third in the field today, courtesy of which Daryl Mitchell got a reprieve, as Rachin Ravindra had gotten lucky on both the previous instances. Rohit had made his best to dive, but was a little to react, as a result of which, the ball slipped off his hand.

The very next over witnessed vice-captain Shubman Gill drop another simple catch at the deep square leg region. This time, it was Glenn Phillips who got the lifeline. Axar Patel had almost trapped the Kiwi batter, having him slog sweep a flighted delivery towards the region where Gill was stationed to create a chance. However, the 25-year-old's effort wasn't enough to pocket the ball in his hands.

Thus, there were a couple of dropped catches in a span of mere ten deliveries, which accounted for a total of four missed chances by the Men in Blue so far in the innings.

Gill and India breathed a sigh of relief, though, as Phillips was out bowled by Varun Chakravarthy 11 balls later in the 38th over. The batter had to depart after adding 34 runs from 52 deliveries where he was also involved in a 57-run partnership with Mitchell. Phillips' dismissal also meant that half the BlackCaps' side was back to the pavilion after adding 165 runs, with a little over 12 overs remaining into the innings.

The Men in Blue will be looking to make amends with the sloppy fielding efforts today, while the Kiwis would want to add as many runs in the remaining overs to stretch the target for the opposition in the ultimate clash, being played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
