During the celebration of Holi, the festival of colours, a heartwarming scene unfolded as former Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma added a playful touch to the festivities. The vibrant atmosphere within the MI camp brings a sense of relief for fans, particularly following their defeat in their opening fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, March 24.

Rohit, known for his cheerful demeanor and playful character, was in the spotlight as he took the celebration as a chance to ignite laughter and happiness among his teammates. In a video posted by MI on the micro-blogging platform 'X,' the Indian captain was captured gleefully sprinkling water with a hose on his fellow Mumbai teammates. Interestingly, he didn't hesitate to even spare the team's social media admin, who was recording the celebration.

"Happy Holi, everyone! Brb, admin needs to get the phone repaired," the franchise captioned the post.

MI lost their opening match in the IPL for the 12th consecutive time

Mumbai Indians kickstarted their Indian Premier League 2024 campaign when they locked horns against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. MI suffered a six-run defeat, marking their 12th successive loss in the opening match of the IPL.

Opting to bowl first, MI restricted GT to 168 runs, thanks to excellent bowling spells from Jasprit Bumrah (3/14) and Gerald Coetzee (2/27). Sai Sudharsan stood out for the Titans, scoring 45 off 39 deliveries. Later, GT bowlers ran riot from the beginning of the second innings as MI were restricted to 162 runs.

MI will next travel to Hyderabad to face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, March 27. Incidentally, the five-time champions will play their first home game on April 1 against inaugural winner Rajasthan Royals.
