The scenes for the Mumbai (MUM) team were disappointing as they lost the game against Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) by five wickets in the sixth round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. This was a disappointing performance by the defending champions that could also affect their chances of qualifying for the playoffs and keep their title defence alive.
It was the Mumbai batters who had a horrible match on the day when all their top batters failed to make an impact. However, there was still some hope provided by Shardul Thakur who was their highest scorer in both innings and also got some crucial wickets during the match. Even Rohit Sharma who was making his long-awaited return in domestic cricket struggled to get going with scores of 3 and 28, during the match as his struggles in red-ball cricket continued after horrible outings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Despite still not finding any form on his return the India skipper still went on to give a pep talk to the team before they went to defend a target of 205 in the second innings at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy, in BKC. On this occasion, Rohit might not have been the captain of the Mumbai side but still displayed some leadership qualities.
Notably, the hitman tried to inspire the team to put up a fight in the match. Looking at all the players listening to him carefully shows how well the T20 World Cup-winning captain knows how to connect with his teammates.

Jammu & Kashmir scripted famous win against Mumbai
Speaking of what went down in the second innings the J&K batters chased down the target in 49 overs. However, Mumbai gave themselves a chance in the game thanks to the brilliant spell from all-rounder Shams Mulani, who ended with figures of 4/54.

But unfortunately, the knocks from Shubham Khajuria (49 off 89 deliveries), Vivrant Sharma (38 off 69 deliveries), and Abid Mushtaq (32 off 32 deliveries*) were enough to chase down the target.
