Having not been able to capitalize on a brisk start in the first T20I and missing out in the second game as well, Sanju Samson made it amply sure for himself to not miss out in the third and final T20I of the series.
Having winning the toss and opted to bat first, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side was off to a flyer courtesy Samson, with a streak of four boundaries off Taskin Ahmed enough to signal that the wicketkeeper-batter meant business in Hyderabad. Despite his opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, departing on the first delivery of the third over, it did not really have any impact on the opener.
With Suryakumar doing what he usually does at the other end, it was almost as if Samson had made it a point to be one-up against his skipper. Be it the powerplay or beyond it, none of it made any difference to Samson as he carried on his merry way by tearing apart Rishad Hossain, Bangladesh's most expensive bowler in the previous game, for a couple of fours followed by a magnificent maximum over long-off to bring up just his third half-century in his 29th T20I innings, by far the most scorching one.
India steam roll Bangladesh as Samson, Suryakumar continue to fire all cylinders
The 10th over of the game saw Samson absolutely maul the leg-spinner for five power-packed sixes, as he raced away from 62 to the nineties in no time. Suryakumar himself completed a 23-ball fifty in the next over.
At the time of writing, Samson brought up his maiden T20I ton with a lovely shot down the ground. Deservedly so, he received a big hug from the captain and a standing ovation from his teammates in the dugout. The crowd has been absolutely loving the exhibition of power-hitting he has put up.
India are 190/1 after 13 overs, and would be gunning to end on a high with such a magnificent platform provided the duo in the middle.
Here's how X reacted to Samson's motoring century:
