KKR register first-ever win over LSG
The two-time champions secured their fourth win this season, outplaying the Lucknow-based franchise by eight wickets at the iconic Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 14. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer invited LSG to bat first upon winning the toss. Mitchell Starc, the highest-priced acquisition in the cash-rich league's history, made an early breakthrough for his team by dismissing Deepak Hooda inside the powerplay after Vaibhav Arora removed opener Quinton de Kock in the second over of the match.
Despite LSG captain KL Rahul and Ayush Badoni failing to contribute, the big-hitting West Indian Nicholas Pooran emerged as the top scorer for the visiting side. Pooran played a stunning 45 runs off 32, featuring two boundaries and four maximums, helped LSG to post a total of 161-7. Meanwhile, ace speedster Starc claimed two more wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Pooran, while conceding 28 runs.
In pursuit of the 162-run chase, Sunil Narine fell early to Mohsin Khan's delivery. Mohsin went on to claim another wicket, dismissing Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the fourth over. However, Phil Salt led the charge and played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 89 runs off 47 balls, ensuring a comfortable eight-wicket victory for KKR, with 26 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, this was the first-ever win for the Knight Riders against the Super Giants, since they had a 3-0 record against the Lucknow franchise, since its inception during the 2022 edition.
