Bangladeshi stalwart, Shakib Al Hasan, has often found himself enmeshed in controversy over the years, primarily due to his on-field demeanour. His aggressive reactions towards opponents, umpires, and in press conferences have consistently contributed to his contentious image.
However, a recent incident in Canada involving Shakib occurred as his team, Bangla Tigers Mississauga, was heading to the team bus after their latest game against the Brampton Wolves was washed out due to incessant rain. This episode was linked to the ongoing events in his home country, Bangladesh.
The 37-year-old, who was elected to the National Assembly led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed, has faced criticism for not addressing the political unrest in Bangladesh. Hasina recently fled the country due to escalating violence.

Shakib was seen walking towards the team bus, surrounded by fans taking photos. Amidst the crowd, some fans hurled abuses at him. Shakib, however, did not react and simply nodded his head while making his way to the bus after getting done with a phone call, accompanied by security personnel monitoring the situation.
In the video, a certain group of people who were standing on one side of the barricade were heard questioning Shakib about the political situation in Bangladesh and hurling abuse at him in Bengali.

In the realm of cricketing performance, the southpaw has accumulated a modest 70 runs across six innings. Nevertheless, his bowling statistics are markedly impressive. Over five innings, he has secured seven wickets, all while upholding an exceptionally economical rate of 5.75. His leadership has also been exemplary, guiding the Tigers to an Eliminator clash against the Toronto Nationals, slated for August 10, 2024.
The resolution of the situation in Bangladesh remains uncertain, and only the passage of time will reveal how it unfolds.
