Shreyas Iyer's second maximum during India's ongoing clash against New Zealand in the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy was a visual treat to witness. A slower ball served up by Will O’Rourke as a half-volley outside off stump was hammered away with authority by the middle-order batter.

The 117.6 kph delivery was dealt with emphatically. Iyer was quick to spot the change of pace, and did not hold back in swinging through the line to dispatch the ball over the long-on fence for a thunderous maximum. With that, India's score read 164/4 after 35 overs.

However, Iyer fell victim to a short delivery by O’Rourke in the towering pacer's subsequent over. The ball which dismissed Iyer was significantly quicker and much better directed than the aforementioned one which travelled the distance. Iyer was rushed into the shot, ending up splicing the ball to Will Young, who completed the catch running back from mid-wicket.

Earlier in the day, India started off quite poorly. The top-order endured a collapse with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli departing cheaply. India ended the powerplay at a score of 37/3, their joint-lowest score in India's history in the marquee ODI tournament, in a desperate need of a rebuild.

Fixtures of semifinals to be determined by winner of ongoing encounter

Interestingly, the winner between India and New Zealand will top their group. Not only that, the team emerging victorious will play Australia. On the other hand, the team finishing second best on the day will take on South Africa.

South Africa and Australia ended first and second, respectively, in Group B. While the Proteas won their games against Afghanistan and England, Australia got through to the playoffs while only winning once. Both of Australia's games other than their campaign opener against England were washed out due to incessant rain.
