Mumbai's Shreyas Iyer was involved in a heated confrontation with the on-field umpires during his side's Ranji Trophy encounter against Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai. The incident occurred after he was dismissed in the hosts' second innings in the 22nd over.

Trying to bring a certain amount of stability to the innings, Iyer was unsuccessful in guiding an Auqib Nabi delivery to the off side. All he could manage was a nick behind to the wicket-keeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan.

It was a sharp catch by Wadhawan. The on-field umpires, Navdeep Singh and Sundaram Ravi, had already given the out signal. However, Iyer, who was confused regarding the legality of the catch, was involved in a verbal tussle with the umpires. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was right next to him, but it was Iyer who did most of the talking before walking off. The umpires ultimately confirmed his dismissal, with Iyer taking the long walk back to the dugout.

Shardul Thakur, Tanush Kotian steer Mumbai out of trouble

Turning attention to how the match stands, Mumbai are positioned at 274/7. At the close of play on Day 2, they possess a lead of 188 runs. From a fragile position of 101/7, Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian seemed to have saved the team from disgrace by stitching together an unbeaten 173-run stand for the eighth wicket.

Earlier in the day, a top-order collapse left the hosts reeling with J&K gaining the upper hand. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma perished for 26 and 28, respectively. A rare collapse from the middle-order with Hardik Tamore, Rahane, Iyer, Shivam Dube, and Shams Mulani left Mumbai in all sorts of trouble before Thakur and Kotian arrived to navigate Mumbai towards a safer harbour.
