Watch: Shreyas Iyer tackles England's short-ball tactics to smash two sixes in Jofra Archer's over
Speedster Jofra Archer was asked to bowl the seventh over of the match by English captain Jos Buttler.
A short-leg in place, a strong leg side field, and a couple of slips stationed in the cordon. England had laid out plans to end Shreyas Iyer's stay soon into his arrival at the crease, having sent the openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal packing inside the powerplay itself, as India entered the innings with a quest to chase down 249-run target set by the visitors.
Speedster Jofra Archer was asked to bowl the seventh over of the match by English captain Jos Buttler. Iyer, known for his weakness to face the bouncers, was thrown a couple of them in the over. However, to everyone's surprise, Iyer picked both the deliveries well, parking both the deliveries out of the park for maximums.
On the fifth ball of the over, Archer attempted a bouncer at the Mumbai batter, but with a strong stance and excellent bat swing, Iyer dispatched the ball over mid-wicket region right into the stands. The next delivery was again a short ball, however, Iyer again swung his blade to direct it above the third man region for a six, thereby completely failing the ploy used by the Englishmen to get his wicket.

The 30-year-old did not stop there, as he went on to accomplish a well-compiled half-century, reaching the landmark off just 30 balls. His knock included eight boundaries as well, apart from the couple of sixes he hit to Archer. This was Iyer's nineteenth fifty in the format, and the batter has a chance to convert it into a century with plenty of overs left, and him being well settled at the crease.
Speaking of the match, the Men in Blue have already scored 111 runs for the loss of two wickets and need 135 more to win with Iyer and Gill batting at the crease, at the time of writing. If the duo manages to bat a little more, it will ease the things for the Indian to collect a comfortable win in the series opener, being played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur.
