Mitchell Marsh showcased his brilliant agility and sharp reflexes on Day 3 of the third Test between India and Australia in Brisbane when he took a stunning catch to dismiss Shubman Gill on Monday, December 16.

The Punjab batter walked out to the middle after Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Mitchell Starc off the second ball of the Indian innings. In Starc's second over, Shubman tried to play an expansive drive to a ball which was pitched well outside off-stump. Playing away from his body, all the 25-year-old managed was a thick outside edge that flew to the left of Marsh, stationed at gully.

The Australian all-rounder dived to his left and caught the ball with both hands, with his body almost parallel to the ground. Marsh went on a celebratory run after taking the splendid catch as he was happy with his effort. Gill departed for just one run after facing three balls.

This was a very important wicket in the context of the game. Gill scored a magnificent half-century the last time he played a Test match at the iconic Gabba against Australia in the 2020-2021 series. However, this time he will have to wait for the second innings to make an impact.

Gill got starts in both innings of the previous Test match at the Adelaide Oval. However, he failed to convert them into substantial scores. The Firozpur-born will not be happy when he looks back at the shot he offered to get out on Monday as he did not need to play at the widish delivery, especially with the ball being new.

Earlier in the day, the Indian bowlers managed to dismiss Australia for 445 as Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 6/76 from 28 overs. Mohammed Siraj bagged a couple of wickets, while Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy chipped in with one wicket apiece.
