WATCH: South Africa's fielding coach enters field as substitute during Tri-Series match
South Africa fielding coach Wandile Gwavu came in as a substitute in the Tri-Series match against New Zealand.
The Pakistan ODI Tri-Series is already complete and it has given the fans a glimpse of the grounds and venues that will be hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 which will also be taking place in Pakistan. The Tri-Series has already got its first finalist in New Zealand who won their first two games convincingly.
The South African team might have had some moments in the game against the Kiwis but could not overcome the crucial moments in the match. They will now have to make sure they beat Pakistan tomorrow at the National Stadium in Karachi to make sure they qualify for the finals. The South Africa team made some interesting decisions during the match where their squad had limited options due to most of the players being stuck due to SA20 commitments which resulted in the Proteas naming a team of just 12 players in the end.
One of the biggest decisions in the game was where South African fielding coach Wandile Gwavu came in as a substitute due to the lack of fielding options and the unavailability of many first-choice players. This was one of the most bizarre moments to see in a game of cricket. Gwavu was also seen martialing the troupes and giving his suggestions on how the field should be set as well. This was one of the rare sights in the sport where the coaching staff was seen on the field filling in for the players.

This is not the first instance where South Africa was short of fielding options and needed one of the coaching staff to come in as a substitute. During the last season, former South Africa batting coach and cricketer JP Duminy came in as a substitute fielder during a match against Abu Dhabi since some South African fielders had fallen ill just before the game.
