A game of cricket, or any other sport for that matter, has two sides. While the winning team celebrates in jubilation, it is often the losers who are sidelined from any limelight, especially if it is a finale of a tournament. Similar scenes unfolded at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, March 15 after Mumbai Indians Women clinched the WPL 2025 title by defeating Delhi Capitals Women.

DC Women's Marizanne Kapp was crying in disbelief after her team lost the grand finale by a margin of just 8 runs. Not able to soak in the narrow defeat, Kapp was hiding her face with her palms while shedding tears, as teammates Jemimah Rodrigues and Sarah Bryce tried to console the South African all-rounder. A video of the moment has been doing the rounds on social media and has already generated several likes and quotes from fans.

Tried so hard and got so far, ft. Kapp

In the summit clash at Brabourne, DC made a flying start after bowling first, and the hero with the ball was Kapp, who took a couple of wickets in the powerplay itself to put pressure on MI straight away. Bowling all her four overs on the trot, the Cape Province-born had outstanding figures of 4-0-11-2 at the end of her spell. However, a stellar partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt (30 off 28) and Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 44) took Mumbai to 149-7 at the end of 20 overs.

In reply to the chase, Delhi had to deal with a horrid start, losing both Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, the in-form openers, within the first three overs. Jess Jonassen and Annabel Sutherland, too, failed to get going. This is when Kapp stepped onto the occasion with the bat, staging an important partnership with Jemimah. However, once the latter departed, things went down south.

Kapp, with her counterattacking 40 from 26 balls tried to keep DC in the hunt, but lack of support from the other end meant that it wasn't supposed to be for Delhi, as they fell short by a few in the final over. This was the third-consecutive final loss for Delhi under Lanning's captaincy.
