Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages for Suryakumar Yadav, who notched up a century against Sri Lanka in the third and decided T20I match against Sri Lanka on Saturday (January 7) evening. His unbeaten 51-ball 112* run knock helped India win the game by a huge 91-run margin, but among all the wishes, Virat Kohli’s message for the 32-year-old batter was special.
Courtesy of Suryakumar’s century, India posted a huge total of 228/5 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) Stadium in Rajkot. It was a crucial game for both sides as the series had been leveled 1-1 after the Islanders clinched a victory in the second game. But Suryakumar’s efforts with the bat and a brilliant comeback by the bowlers helped India win the series 2-1.
After Suryakumar's knock in the first innings, Kohli wasted no time and took to his official Instagram and shared a picture of the batter in his stories to congratulate him. Kohli tagged Surya in the story, and added the fire and clapping emojis. The BCCI shared a video of Suryakumar checking his Instagram after the game, where he was seen replying to Kohli’s story.
Seeing Kohli’s story, Surya exclaimed “Oh baba, look who has posted a story!” and replied to him saying “Bhauuuuuuuuu, bohot saara pyaar. See you soooooooon (Brother, lots of love. See you soon!)”
He was shown entering the changing room after being applauded by a boisterous Rajkot audience in this footage. He then responded to Kohli's message. He then received more applause as he headed towards the bus. He was also seen cutting a cake that had been baked especially for him after he arrived at the hotel.
