Varun Chakravarthy continued from where he left against New Zealand as he bagged the prized scalp of Travis Head in the Semi-Final 1 clash between India and Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy on Tuesday, March 4.
Chakaravarthy, who took five wickets to win the Player of the Match award against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, needed just one delivery to dismiss the in-form Head. India captain Rohit Sharma introduced the mystery spinner into the bowling attack in the ninth over. After Steve Smith got off strike on the first delivery, Head tried to loft Chakravarthy straight down the ground. However, he miscued the stroke and Shubman Gill took a fine catch running to his left from long-off.

Head backed himself to clear long-off as he was looking in sublime touch, scoring 39 runs in quick time. However, the move turned out to be costly for the southpaw. He faced 33 balls in his quick fire knock, belting five fours and two maximums. Head managed just one run off his first 11 deliveries as he struggled to get an idea of the surface. However, he took the Indian pacers to the cleaners after getting himself set at the crease.

Australia got off to a slow start as the Indian pacers were on the money. Mohammed Shami went past Cooper Connolly's bat on several occasions before the Bengal seamer finally found the under-edge in the third over. KL Rahul completed a good low catch.
The pitch has not been great for batting as some balls have turned sharply while others have stopped on the batters. Australia have got off to a quick start thanks to Head's early onslaught. They would want to capitalise on it and post a formidable total, as India have a deep batting line up.
