[WATCH] 'Virat and I often speak about it' - KL Rahul reflects on heartbreaking IPL 2016 final loss with RCB
“If one of us had stayed longer, it could have been a very different story. Winning at home in Chinnaswamy would have been unforgettable," said Rahul.
Delhi Capitals (DC) will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on April 27. Earlier DC smashed down the home team in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium with the Bengaluru-born cricketer KL Rahul smashing 93* off 53 balls and showcased his talent in front of his home town.
Ahead of the 'revenge week' clash between the two teams, DC middle-order batter opened up on the experience when he was part of the RCB camp in 2016. The wicketkeeper-batter admitted that the loss in the finals against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was "heartbreaking" and acknowledged that he used to talk about the game with the RCB former skipper, Virat Kohli. The right-handed batter recalled that if one of them could have stayed a bit longer, the game could end up like a fairytale story.
“Virat and I have spoken about it many times. That 2016 season was very special for RCB. We were at the bottom of the table and had to win seven games in a row to qualify, and we did. We went on to win the Eliminator and made it to the final,” Rahul said on Star Sports. “If one of us had stayed longer, it could have been a very different story. Winning at home in Chinnaswamy would have been unforgettable."
Meanwhile, DC are at the second in the points table with six victories and two losses in their eight matches they have played so far. RCB are at the third just below the Capitals with six victories in the nine matches they have played. RCB after their loss against DC will plot their revenge against them in their home ground and gain their seventh victory of the tournament, to get close to the playoffs stage.
