After India beat New Zealand by 44 runs in their final group-stage fixture of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the environment inside the dressing room was filled with laughter, celebration and energy. Among the many post-match activities, one of the most fun moments is the announcement of the 'Fielder of the Match' – a token of appreciation given to the best fielder of the game.
The contenders for the medal were Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Virat Kohli, each of whom put on a brilliant display of athleticism on the field. However, it was the ever-reliable Virat Kohli who bagged the honour for his sharp reflexes and incredible contribution at key fielding positions.
Nevertheless, the message came with a sudden twist, as the token was nowhere to be found. As the support staff and players looked around in search of it, laughter broke out in the dressing room. Some mockingly accused each other of hiding it, while others teased coach T Dilip. Eventually, the medal was found tucked away in a kit bag, adding to the fun in the dressing room.
Once the medal was found, training assistant Udenaka Nuwan Senevirathne had the honor of presenting it to Kohli, who accepted it with a warm smile.
