Ace India batter, Virat Kohli, was cleaned up for a nine-ball knock which had him score just the solitary run in India's first innings against New Zealand on Day 2 of the second Test between India and New Zealand. However, how he was dismissed was very un-Kohli-like. It was a similar delivery to which he got off the mark against Mitchell Santner.
A low full-toss which was dipping as it approached Kohli could have very well been played to mid-on and been dealt with with the minimum of fuss. However, Kohli went for an unusual hack across the line. The ball sneaked past the bottom of Kohli's bat. Santner kept his celebration lowkey while Kohli stood there on one knee, struggling to comprehend what had just transpired. He was left fuming with himself as he trudged back to the pavilion.

Kohli was Santner's second scalp of the morning. It was just his previous over during which he trapped Shubman Gill plumb in front with a ball which went on with the arm to thud into his front pad. Umpire Paul Reiffel had no hesitation in raising his finger.

Phillips gets rid of Jaiswal immediately after coming on
It was surprising enough for a handy spinner like Glenn Phillips to come into the attack as late as India's 27th over. Four deliveries later he proved why Tom Latham should have brought him on sooner as he fired a beautifully controlled delivery on a length which even the temperamental Yashasvi Jaiswal could not resist.

It was Daryl Mitchell at first slip to hang on to a low chance. With that, India lost their fourth batter with the hosts being in a spot of bother as they try to secure a healthy lead. It is poised to be a challenging task for the batters at the crease and those to come considering the deviation the Kiwi spinners are getting off the track.
