After comprehensively winning the T20I series, India are set to play three ODIs against England to prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025. India captain Rohit Sharma, the legendary Virat Kohli, and other stars like Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shubman Gill arrived at the Nagpur airport ahead of the first ODI, which will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday, February 6.
India won the five-match T20I series 4-1 under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership. However, the ODIs are going to have more significance for the Men in Blue as this will be their final preparation ahead of the Champions Trophy. India did not have a great time when they played their last ODI series. In Sri Lanka, the Rohit-led side lost to Charith Asalanka and Co. 0-2 in a three-match series, with one game ending without a result.

The onus will be on the veterans like Rohit and Kohli, who have not been among the run-getters in the red-ball format of late. They had disastrous outings in the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, with some fans and experts even suggesting that they should step aside from Test cricket. Both of them returned to the Ranji Trophy scene after several years to get some runs under their belt. However, they failed to make a mark. The two iconic batters will hope that they score some runs in the ODIs against England to build confidence heading into the Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, Shubman will be high on confidence after smashing a gutsy century in Punjab's round six clash in the Ranji Trophy against Karnataka. He is also the vice-captain of the ODI side. Shubman's performances in Test cricket have left a lot to be desired. However, he has been a force to reckon with in the ODI setup. The right-handed batter has scored 2,328 runs from 47 ODIs at a staggering average of 58.20. He would have a major role to play at the top of the order. Also, Shreyas Iyer's form is going to be crucial for India as he is set to play his first international match since August 2024.
