Day 1 of the ongoing third Test between India and New Zealand was a roller coaster ride for the hosts. Both sides faced off at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 1, and after conceding 235 runs in the first innings, India’s batting order once again let them down. 

The performance of star batter Virat Kohli once again came under the radar. With the score reading 84/3, Kohli attempted to take a needless and risky single and the decision cost him his wicket. Facing the Rachin Ravindra towards the fag end of the day, Kohli was fell short despite putting in a dive as Matt Henry's throw caught him short of his ground. Kohli departed for a score of four runs in six deliveries, leaving India on a score of 84/4.

New Zealand continue to dominate India 

The third clash between India and New Zealand began with the visitors coming out to bat first after losing the toss. Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored 28 and four runs and were dismissed early but half-centuries from Will Young (71 off 138) Daryl Mitchell (82 off 129) helped New Zealand reach 235. As for India, Ravindra Jadeja was the highest wicket taker in the first innings, with five wickets to his name. Washington Sundar took four wickets while Akash Deep took one wicket.

Coming out to bat, India lost Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal early as they both failed to go big. At the end of the day, Shubman Gill stood unbeaten on 31 alongside Rishabh Pant as India lost nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj for a duck and Virat Kohli for four runs. By the end of day 1, India trail New Zealand by 149 runs.
