Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman has declared Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma as his favourite player from the current Indian squad. The actor, best known for his iconic portrayal of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, shared his admiration for Sharma during a promotional interview for his upcoming film Deadpool & Wolverine.

Jackman's unexpected revelation came during a video interview posted by Marvel India. When asked about his favourite Indian cricketer, the Australian actor responded without hesitation.

"Right now, Rohit." He went on to praise Sharma's recent performance, "You took the [World] Cup home! I'm glad. But honestly, he was a beast." Ryan Reynolds, who also sat beside him, nodded in agreement and said, “This is amazing!” This comment refers to Sharma's stellar leadership in India's victorious T20 World Cup campaign.

Deadpool & Wolverine to release on July 26 in India

On June 29, the Indian cricket team, under Sharma's captaincy, clinched their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final. This momentous win came 17 years after India's first T20 World Cup victory under M.S. Dhoni's leadership in 2007. 

The Men in Blue received a victory procession from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. The open-bus concert, which was supposed to start at 5:00 PM, started late, but once it got going, lakhs of people showed up to celebrate the freshly crowned world champions' return home.

Jackman's comments have generated buzz in both the cricket and entertainment worlds, showing the global appeal of Indian cricket.

Directed by Shawn Levy, the Marvel Studios production, set to release on July 26 in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, has garnered additional interest from Indian audiences following Jackman's cricket-related comments.

It also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.
