India and England are fighting it out in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on February 6, 2025. After England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors got off to a strong start before India got their way back with crucial wickets. A standout moment came earlier in the game as Yashasvi Jaiswal pulled off a brilliant running-behind catch to well-set dismiss Ben Duckett off Harshit Rana’s bowling.

India entered the contest with a 4-1 T20I series win against the same opponents. Ahead of the toss, Jaiswal and Rana received their ODI caps. However, the side faced a setback as Virat Kohli was ruled out due to a knee injury.  England opener Philip Salt had given England early momentum by smashing 26 runs off a single Rana's over. However his attempt at a third run in Hardik Pandya's over led to his dismissal. Shreyas Iyer’s sharp fielding and KL Rahul’s smart glove work saw Salt depart for 43 off 26 balls.

After Salt’s departure, Duckett looked to steady the visitor's innings but fell victim to an extraordinary effort from Jaiswal. In the 10th over, the Delhi-born bowled a short-pitched delivery that got extra bounce, forcing the southpaw into an awkward pull shot. The ball took the top edge and went high in the air behind midwicket. Jaiswal, positioned at midwicket, sprinted back a long distance and kept his eyes on the ball while running, timing his dive to perfection, completing a stunning catch. The two debutants combined brilliantly to send the English opener back for 32 off 29 balls.

Rana dismisses Harry Brook in the same over

Rana, who initially struggled by conceding 37 runs in his first two overs, bounced back spectacularly. In the same over as Duckett’s dismissal, the speedster struck again, this time removing Harry Brook for a duck. A well-bowled bouncer forced Brook into an uncomfortable position, leading to a glove down the leg side, which Rahul grabbed comfortably. After this wicket, the tourists were struggling at 77/3 under 10 overs.
