India took on South Africa in the first of three ODIs at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, on Thursday, October 6. South Africa made a sedated start in the rain-curtailed affair before the Indian bowlers fought back with three quick wickets. Aiden Markram's dismissal was the pick of the lot after Kuldeep Yadav bamboozled him with an absolute pearler.

India's stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan put in the visitors to bat first after winning the toss on a surface that had a bit in it for the bowlers. The South African innings got off to a decent start in a match that was reduced to 40 overs per side due to rain. The opening stand of 49 runs between Janneman Malan and Quinton de Kock was ended by Shardul Thakur, who dismissed the former with an innocuous delivery.

Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma was cleaned up by Thakur in the next over by a brilliant indecker. But it was the dismissal of Aiden Markram in the 16th over that takes the cake. The stylish right-handed batter was all at sea in the over as he was not picking Kuldeep Yadav at all. And at the final delivery of the over, the left arm spinner castled him with a beautiful delivery that turned sharply after pitching outside the off stump.

The Indian fans loved Markram's dismissal as it was a carbon copy of Babar Azam's dismissal against the same bowler in the 2019 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan. South Africa will hope for a better finish to their innings as the pitch is not the easiest to bat on and a total of around 200-220 could prove to be the winning tally on this surface.

The fans were taken down memory lane after watching Kuldeep's magical delivery
