Co-owner Preity Zinta is not happy with the performance of the Punjab team in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. Following a defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in Dharamshala, Zinta opined that if the team doesn’t win its home games, qualification for the playoffs becomes difficult. Notably, Punjab have won just one out of their six home games in the 17th edition of the cash-rich tournament and are currently placed eighth on the points table.
Even if they win their remaining three matches, Punjab will accumulate a total of 14 points but that doesn’t confirm their place in the top four. Zinta also mentioned that losing Shikhar Dhawan early in the tournament due to injury too did not help the team. She added that the team lost four matches on the last ball and also thanked the fans for supporting the team through thick and thin.

“Obviously, not very happy. We lost four games in the last ball. We lost our captain to injury. Some games were spectacular and some were not up to the mark. We will only do well in the future if we win our home games. Big thank you our fans for always supporting us through thick n thin,” Zinta wrote on her X account.

Meanwhile, Punjab bowlers were terrific in their last match against Chennai as they restricted the visitors to 167 runs in the first innings. They picked up early wickets and did well in the death and seemed favourites to get the job done at the halfway mark. However, their batters once again put up a disappointing show. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Punjab lost the match by 28 runs.

Next, they will host Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Dharamsala, then play Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. To stay in the race to qualify for the playoffs, the team needs to win all their remaining three matches.
