Virat Kohli unleashed the beast on Thursday, May 18, when Sunrisers Hyderabad hosted the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 65th match of the IPL 2023. The stalwart showcased his batting prowess and notched up a magnificent century during the chase as he lit the stage on fire, thereby getting to his sixth ton for RCB.

The game was a must-win for RCB as they had to get ahead in the points table, and also strengthen their Net Run Rate (NRR). And given RCB’s previous record against SRH, it was meant to be a thrilling contest. The fixture saw SRH’s Heinrich Klaasen notching up a ton in the first innings, and Kohli hitting one in the second, making it a historic scene in the tournament’s history.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis managed the game very well when they opened the innings for their side, as they put up a 172-run opening partnership, the highest this season. As Kohli got to the three-figure mark, the entire cricket fraternity lauded him for his game as he showed great grit, determination, and composure.

The 34-year-old also received praise from his wife, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma, as she took to her Instagram to share pictures of Kohli and lauded the batter.

RCB inch closer to playoff spot

Thanks to Kohli’s ton and Faf’s 47-ball 71, RCB were able to win the game with four balls to spare, by eight wickets. With the win, they also made their way into the top four and replaced Mumbai Indians in the fourth position. Also, skipper Faf du Plessis continued his reign on the top spot of the IPL 2023 Orange Cap race.

Both MI and RCB are tied with 14 points each, but RCB have the upper hand due to a positive and stronger NRR. Only one team has qualified for the playoffs so far, and with two teams being eliminated from the race, seven more teams are in contention. All 10 teams have played 13 games in the league stage and have one last game to go, as their fate will be decided based on the results of these upcoming games.
