‘Whenever I was going in to give water also, they were shouting my name’ - Shreyanka Patil on Bengaluru's home crowd support for ODI series vs SA
“Whenever I was going in to give water also they were shouting my name. I thought that I was actually bowling and they were cheering for me," Patil said.
India Women put forth an exceptional performance against South Africa in the recently concluded ODI series. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side won ODI leg and completed the whitewash by dominating the visiting South African side, clinching the assignment by 3-0.
The third ODI saw the Proteas bat first and post a total of 215 runs on the board in the first innings, which the Women in Blue chased with ease following Smriti Mandhana’s exceptional knock and Harmanpreet Kaur’s resilience.
After the game, star cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues had a candid chat with Shreyanka Patil and Priya Punia at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. In the clip shared by the BCCI Women, Rodrigues asked Patil questions about Bengaluru, her home city's crowd and the game.
“Whenever I was going in to give water also they were shouting my name. I thought that I was actually bowling, and they were cheering for me, so apart from that the crowd turned out to be full house, and we were like wow,” Shreyanka Patil said after the match.

I was visualising to get Kapp's wicket last night, and I got it: Shreyanka
Bowling a complete spell of 10 overs, Shreyanka conceded just 35 runs in the final One-Dayer and even took one wicket, dismissing the destructive batter Marizanne Kapp. The Bengaluru-born revealed that she had planned beforehand how she would bowl to Kapp and how elated she was that her plan worked out.
“There was some turn for us. So, I just saw that ball turning back into the batter and I went to Harry Di (Harmanpreet Kaur), I told her that I want to come around (the wicket). She said, all yours. Kapp was playing a little uppish, and I said, 'Okay, it’s time for me to try to get her out.' So, I just bowled my best off-spin and she tried to push it, and then I got her out, caught and bowled. I was visualising last night that I want to get Kappy (Kapp) or Laura Wolvaardt out this way, and I got it, I’m very happy,” Patil said in the post-match presser.
