After the conclusion of the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14, the Chennai Super Kings players took a lap of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, in order to thank their fans to turn up in numbers in their last home game. During the process, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar ran towards MS Dhoni, breaking the human wall in order to get his signature on his shirt. The 41-year-old eventually signed on his shirt as both of them hugged in the end.
Right after the incident, the legendary former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar was back for the post-match show where he talked about his love for Dhoni. He went on to add that there are so many youngsters who look up to the two-time world champion and stated that the way Dhoni carries himself has been absolutely fantastic.
“Who doesn’t love MS Dhoni? What he has done for Indian cricket over the years, it’s been amazing. For me, the most important thing is the kind of role model he has been. There are so many youngsters in India who look up to him. The way he has handled himself is absolutely fantastic,” Gavaskar stated while talking to Star Sports.
“I borrowed a pen as soon as I heard they are going to do this thing (taking a lap around the Chepauk). So, I kept it with me. Thank you, so much,” the 73-year-old concluded.
"I'm a big fan of MS Dhoni. And yesterday's moment was like a fan meeting his hero and taking an autograph on his shirt, so it was such a moment at yesterday," Gavaskar later said in #AskStar session.
CSK need to beat DC to qualify for playoffs
Even though the four-time champions are in a comfortable position to qualify for the next round but things can get complicated if either of the three teams between Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings win their remaining games. Notably, the MS Dhoni-led side will next take on the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023, and if they manage to win that match, the team can very well finish in the top two but that will depend on how the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants finish their remaining fixtures.
However, they will be relaxed at the moment but will be eager to improve as neither their bowlers nor the batters did well in the last match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
