RCB beat MI by five runs to reach WPL 2024 final
In the semi-final clash against Mumbai Indians, RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and opted to bat first. Their decision appeared to falter as they suffered a batting collapse early on. However, Ellyse Perry, who batted at No. 3, anchored RCB's innings with a gritty 66 runs from 50 balls before being dismissed by Saika Ishaque. The 33-year-old's score was studded with eight boundaries and one maximum. Despite the Aussie star's valiant effort, RCB managed to post a below-par total of 135 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Meanwhile, MI's bowling attack, spearheaded by Hayley Mathews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Ishaque picked up two wickets apiece.
Mumbai, on the other hand, also made a dismal start during the chase, losing three wickets for 68 within the first 11 overs. Despite the early setbacks, captain Harmanpreet Kaur led her side from the front and scored 33 off 30 deliveries, including four boundaries. Shreyanka Patil was the pick of bowlers for RCB, who has finished with excellent figures of 2/16. Apart from Patil, Perry, Sophie Molineux, Georgia Wareham, and Asha Shobhana all made one scalp each, together restricting MI from winning their second consecutive title.
