WPL 2024: Sprinklers turn on between Mumbai Indians-Gujarat Giants clash resulting in bizarre stoppage

Game 16 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) featured a clash between Gujarat Giants women and Mumbai Indians women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, March 9. With the clash unfolding, the game was suddenly stopped after a bizarre moment.
After the 18th over of the second innings, the game was stopped after sprinklers got turned on by themselves. As a result, this led to the water sprouting from one of the sprinklers. Following the incident, to prevent the areas of the field from getting damaged, the supersopper came to the rescue act to dry the field in quick time, so that the game could be resumed without much delay.
Meanwhile, after the game was continued, both teams played until the end, with Mumbai Indians registering a dominant win. The video of the sprinklers has been making the rounds all over social media.

Mumbai Indians occupy first place in WPL 2024 points table
Speaking of the clash, the game between Gujarat Giants women and Mumbai Indians women began with Gujarat coming into bat first after winning the toss. After the dismissal of Laura Wolvaardt at a score of 13 runs, skipper Beth Mooney played a brilliant knock, amassing 66 runs in 35 deliveries.
Furthermore, Dayalan Hemalatha scored 74 runs in 40 balls, with Bharti Fulmali adding 21 runs on the board as Gujarat posted a total of 190 runs in the first innings. As for Mumbai Indians, Saika Ishaque was the highest wicket-taker, with two wickets to her name. Hayley Matthews, Shabnim Ismail, Pooja Vastrakar, and Sajeevan Sajana struck once each.

Aiming to chase down the target, Mumbai Indians got off to a good start as openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews scored 49 and 18 runs, respectively. Furthermore, Harmanpreet Kaur propelled her side to a win, scoring 95* runs in 48 deliveries, as Mumbai Indians women won the game by seven wickets.
The victory saw them occupy first place in the WPL 2024 standings with 10 points in seven matches. The side is closely followed by Delhi Capitals women, who have eight points in six matches. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants women sit in last place with two points in six games.
