With the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2023, team India have begun their preparations for the World Test Championship 2023 final, where they'll be facing Australia at The Oval starting June 7. While several players have started their training, those who were a part of the IPL 2023 final will soon be joining the camp in the UK and begin their preparations.
Notably, those who have reached the UK have started training, and one among those is youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 21-year-old was included in the Indian squad as one of the three standby players after Ruturaj Gaikwad pulled out owing to his wedding. Team India finalised the squad a couple of days ago, and Jaiswal flew to the UK in the third batch alongside Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
On Wednesday, May 31, ICC shared a video of Jaiswal’s first-ever training session with the Indian team, as the young batter showed his red-ball skills while batting in the nets. Ravichandran Ashwin was seen sharing some tips with Jaiswal after he finished bowling against him. Later, Jaiswal also received some tips from former India skipper and batting maestro Virat Kohli.
India and Australia will kick-start their hunt for the World Test Championship on June 7. While this is the first time that Australia have made it to the summit clash, India will be playing the WTC final for the second consecutive time. The Indian side faced New Zealand in the inaugural WTC Final, but eventually lost the game. Having defeated Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy recently, India will be high on confidence to clinch the Test mace.
The BCCI shared a video of the Indian contingent training during the net session, where Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rohit Sharma were seen brushing up their batting skills while Shardul Thakur, Ashwin, and other bowlers got their training started as well. Having lost the previous edition of the tournament, India will be desperate to clinch an ICC trophy, which will also be their first since 2013.
